Auto dupe check on Reddit submit page

This post is mainly to outline the concept I made last night. Reddit’s submit page is great: no clutter, easy to understand, etc.

But, one issue is that dupes are rejected after clicking submit. A great addition to the submit page would be a small 16×16 image, updated by AJAX, that would check a URL after you auto-focus away from the URL submit box.

A good submission:
586

A duplicate submission:
589

The user could click on the red X to be taken to the original submission.

Some sort of text would be nice to go along with it. I could easily see someone believing the red x as meaning the url is invalid rather than meaning its already been posted.

I submitted it to reddit and was auto downmodded to 0, so they don’t like it heh

Perhaps they enjoy having 20 some of the same URLs posted to make their site “appear” to have more content?
